Choosing the right file-size limit
File size and dimensions are different
KB measures the file's storage size. Pixels describe its width and height. Reducing one does not automatically meet a requirement for the other.
Reduce a photo to the requested size
For a 200 KB limit, enter 200 and choose KB. You can also enter 20 KB, 50 KB or 500 KB, or select MB for limits such as 1 MB or 4 MB. The image compressor checks each successful output against the chosen maximum and displays its actual byte count.
This tool uses decimal units: 1 KB is 1,000 bytes and 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes. Small limits may require a different accepted format or smaller dimensions; not every combination can be achieved.
Maximums versus minimums
This tool checks a maximum. If a form also specifies a minimum file size, compare the downloaded byte count against that minimum; this tool does not pad or guarantee a minimum size.
When a smaller file needs smaller dimensions
If no dimensions are required, you can let the tool reduce them. If exact dimensions are required, try another format accepted by your upload form. JPG and WebP can be smaller than PNG for photographs.
